GEOGRAPHY: Gee’s Bend, Alabama
The area is so called because of the hairpin turn in the Alabama River that surrounds Boykin, Alabama on three sides. In the 1960s ferry service was stopped as an attempt to isolate this mostly African-American community. The women continued their quilting in near-isolation. How has geography significantly affected the history of other parts of the world?
